DRIFTWOOD OUTDOORS: MODERN TRADITIONALISTS

As the sun begins to peak over the eastern horizon, the spirit of the American Sportsman fills with an excited sense of anticipation. The moment of awakening is upon us. Birds begin to sing their morning songs, animals travel between food and shelter, migrating geese fill the air, and fish begin to search for food. The Modern Traditionalist’s grip tightens around a bow, gun, or rod, knowing with certainty, they are not alone. This is why we hunt and fish. Not for glory, not for esteem; for the feeling of wholeness which fills us while we are out there…….  

Driftwood Outdoors is committed to promoting the outdoors in an ethical and positive manner. The term Modern Traditionalist is intended to define any sportsman who covets the traditional outdoor values of: respect for nature, concern for conservation, and the embracement of time spent with family and friends. The term accepts sportsmen regardless of their method of choice, as long as they conduct themselves in an ethical manner. It does not matter whether one hunts with a recurve or a rifle, or fishes with a flipping stick or a 5 weight. 

Today’s sporting world is much too complicated to divide our resources. Sportsmen are a minority of the general population. While all of us adhere to methods we prefer, we need to be accepting of all ethical and moral means of enjoying the sporting life. There are plenty of poachers, anti-sportsmen organizations, and environmentally destructive corporations to fight. We as representatives of different sporting traditions need to respect and value each others’ contributions to the overall sustained success of defending our freedoms to roam the waters and woodlands in search of fish and game.

At Driftwood Outdoors, we respect the game and fish we pursue, and honor their lives by conducting ourselves gracefully in their presence. Taking the life of a fish or an animal is a delicate experience. We do so to enjoy the bounty, not to boast of our accomplishments.

As the sporting world ever increasingly becomes dominated by product marketing and a false sense of “trophy hunting”, Modern Traditionalists embrace the understanding; the true trophy is found in the experience. Conduct yourself ethically and morally, and please join us as Modern Traditionalists.
